If you’ve ever wondered whether Disney’s After Hours events are worth the extra ticket cost, I’m here to say: for me, absolutely YES.
So far, I’ve attended After Hours at Walt Disney World in both Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios, and both experiences delivered in different ways.
That said — I don’t have children. I think that absolutely matters and could change the experience depending on your family’s needs, stamina levels, and expectations. But as an adult? It was kind of perfect.
Photo above: The line at the Main Street Bakery — Magic Kingdom’s own Starbucks — was completely nonexistent. It was so quiet that I honestly thought it might not even be open for the event. A couple of cast members were standing at the door, and when I asked, they checked for my wristband — proof that I was actually meant to be in the park at that hour. After I showed them my orange band, they laughed, and one of them smiled and said, “It’s open for you!”
Since it was January, there was a chill in the air — around 48 degrees — so I ordered a hot chocolate and wandered through the park, taking it all in. There’s something so special about Magic Kingdom at night when everything is glowing, and the crowds have disappeared, especially on Main Street.
What You Get with an After Hours Ticket
One of the biggest perks right off the bat: you can enter the park at 7:00 PM, even though the event officially starts later (typically around 9:30). That means you’re already getting several hours of park time before the crowds thin out.
Then, once the event begins:
-
Dramatically lower wait times
-
Complimentary snacks (yes, really)
-
Cooler temperatures (especially in summer)
-
A completely different park atmosphere
The included snacks were a highlight — unlimited popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, Mickey bars, and bottled beverages. It sounds small, but it genuinely adds to the carefree feeling of the night.
I thoroughly enjoyed Hollywood Studios After Hours — maybe even more than I expected.
First of all, the cooled-down summer weather made a huge difference. Florida heat can be brutal during the day, but at night it was comfortable and enjoyable.
The real magic? The ride times.
I think the longest I waited all night was about 15 minutes for Slinky Dog Dash. Fifteen. Minutes. For Slinky Dog.
Most of the major attractions were open, and we were able to ride several favorites multiple times without that usual midday exhaustion that comes from weaving through heavy crowds.
The park also feels different at night — more cinematic, more immersive. There’s something about walking through a nearly empty Galaxy’s Edge or Sunset Boulevard that just hits differently. I found a spot on Hollywood Boulevard with a crisp Diet Coke and some complimentary popcorn, looking out toward Tower of Terror, and just let myself take it all in. It was one of those moments that felt simple but unforgettable. Magic Kingdom had a completely different vibe — and I loved it.
One unexpected bonus? A second fireworks show, this time, Disney Enchantment fireworks specifically for the event. Watch Happily Ever After and then another show with significantly fewer people around you feels luxurious in the best way.
But my favorite part was honestly the ambience.
The castle was bare — no holiday overlays, no crowds packed in front — just beautifully lit and glowing. It was the perfect time to get incredible photos without hundreds of people in the background.
Main Street felt calm. Walkways were open. You could slow down and actually notice things.
And yes — I rode the big attractions multiple times. Walking onto rides that normally require Lightning Lanes or long standby waits feels almost surreal.
Is It Worth the Price?
Here’s my honest breakdown:
It’s worth it if:
-
You value low wait times over daytime parades and character meets
-
You enjoy nighttime park ambience
-
You’re visiting during hotter months
-
You don’t mind staying out late
-
You want to re-ride headliners without stress
It may not be worth it if:
-
You have young children who can’t stay up late
-
You’re rope-dropping the next morning
-
You’re primarily interested in daytime entertainment
-
Budget is tight and you’d rather add another park day
For me — a single adult, no kids, flexible schedule — it felt like the most relaxed Disney experience I've ever had.
After Hours events feel like Disney on easy mode.
The combination of:
-
Lower crowds
-
Unlimited snacks
-
Cooler temperatures
-
Open walkways
-
Nighttime aesthetics
…made both events memorable in their own way.
If you’re on the fence and it fits your budget, I’d genuinely recommend trying it at least once — especially at Hollywood Studios in the summer.
It’s a solid YES from me. ✨
